Excerpts

I've found a new novelist to read, Monica Wood. I'm not even sure how she came to me, but considering I finished one and have now taken to another, she's a keeper.

Yesterday morning, before finishing the first book, there were a number of passages I read and connected to. Some more personal than others, I've got two to share.

I was a person who needed "stuffing." More formed after college than before, it's taken my whole life to be filled, and hopefully the process is not complete.  Change and growth. They keep us young.  Stuff on!

The other, less positive, is just as true, though. "Adequate," that's me, or so I felt so many times in my life as a parent. Most of us probably remember the things we wished we'd done better rather than the things we did well, especially in parenting.

What a responsibility parenting is! Trying to do right, regretting the wrongs, and all while vowing to be better each day, we stumbled on. Thank god for another day. I hope, if anyone ever reads this,  that they say to me, and most parents, like was said here, except replacing bad with adequate, "I'm sure you weren't as bad as you think." Wouldn't that be lovely?
