"In the cellars of the night, when the mind starts moving around old trunks of bad times, the pain of this and the shame of that, the memory of a small boldness is a hand to hold." ~John Leonard, critic (25 Feb 1939-2008)*
I've always used the analogy of shutting the door. I wake, eyes fly open, and I begin to fret. If I don't shut that door quickly, I'm in trouble. I guess that's when I go to the cellar. Slamming that door before much gets out is key.
I'm getting better at it, but there are still nights when the thoughts turn. Finding a positive memory - 'a small boldness' - I like it!
