AITA

Many years ago when first one could respond on the internet, I wrote a few comments on the Ithaca Journal site. Well. Its speedy devolvement into aggression and rudeness with no care for others and certainly no intellect, I left and have never validated comments again.

Reading New Yorker this morning, an article once again referenced an internet discussion site, Am I the Asshole. My first encounter with AITA was a brief mention of the site and the advice in a now forgotten article. This one today was the last page of an article on advice columns. *

How wonderful to find an interesting and entertaining site that has rules, compassion and thought!

Discussion as Discourse

Out the window,

Leave It to the Professionals

Our gallery wall.

New Yorker's.

At our last Skunkfest in South Carolina, we bought a number of art pieces from a singer we'd seen the previous spring. Funny and talented, I'd snuck up to empty chairs in the front row to truly enjoy Aaron Raitiere.

Talking to him, that May, I'd bought his CD, and then finding out he went to Cornell and still came this way once in a while, we exchanged phone numbers. He was just a nice guy.

But then the following May, Aaron also had his artwork there. Now, months later I've finally gotten them framed and matted, by a professional, thank goodness, and just last week put up in the hallway.

Every time I go up or down, I now get to look at wonderful artwork while also thinking of all the great times we've had at numerous festivals in the past five or so years. Aaron wasn't there last month, but I'm thinking it's because he's making a name for himself. We missed him but wish him the best.

Our gallery wall looks great, though, don't you think?

I Agree!

Pain Talks

While having my coffee this morning and trying to ignore the pain radiating from my elbows joints, I read this from an article about scientists trying to find a better pill than opioids for, yes, pain.

Hedge trimming on the front hillside has gotten tougher and tougher each year. I'm not a fan of painkillers because I want to  know how my body reacts to what I'm doing. Learning to do less at a time makes it possible for me to do some each day. That's my goal. This morning's aches abated with coffee, but it was telling me I'd done too much yesterday.

Modulating, I get. But graceful? I can only hope.

Life in Politics

That's how I feel about living with our political life: flailing, lost and losing with no help in sight. A silent plea for aid but who out there will come to assist?
